How to Find a Life Coach

We know that change is a constant in life, but that doesn’t mean we navigate it well. When my husband and I transferred to our new city, Atlanta, I fell in love with the trees, hills, and parks. Even though I felt better and more connected to myself and nature, I still had a hard time transitioning in a few of my key life areas. I felt out of sorts and lacking in direction. As a life coach, I was grateful for my tool kit that helped me get clarity and take purposeful action. If you’re making changes and want to work with someone who can help you move forward with more meaning, ease, and fun, I can help you find a life coach or therapist.

Even when we want to make changes, we often struggle with where to start. Confusion and chaos abound, and it can be hard to find clarity and confidence. It’s at this point people start looking for a professional to help them make the changes they want in their lives. Here are some key things to consider when you’re searching for someone to work with:

Do I need a therapist or a life coach?

Both modalities are valid, and both are effective. The key question I’d invite you to ask yourself is this:

Do I want to work through my past to get to the present, or do I want to work in the present to create a new future?

If you’ve got some “old stuff” you want to work through, I can help you find a counselor or therapist specific to your needs. If you’re ready to take a leap into the future and create something new, consider working with me (a life coach).

If I decide to work with a life coach, what should I look for?

Coaching is a partnership, so you want to go into the first conversation you have with a prospective life coach with a little bit of clarity around what you want in a partner.

Try this to create an ideal partner avatar: Where are you strong? Where would you like to grow? What traits might a partner exhibit to help you apply your strengths to your growth edge?

How do I know if a certain life coach is right for me?

If you had a partner who fully supported your strengths, offered unconditional acceptance, offered lots of space for your process, and helped you be crystal clear about your next steps, how might you feel?

Hold on to that feeling. Imagine that it’s traveling throughout your body, filling up every cell. Write down what you’re experiencing. When you talk with a prospective life coach, remember that feeling. You’ll know the “fit” when you share a few minutes with them.
