Realizing There's More - Life After Trauma, Part 1 of 3

The first thing you’ll notice is a shift to doing “pretty good” a majority of the time. You’ll find yourself able to handle the tasks of daily living—and your resourcefulness and capability won’t be surprising to you anymore. Your energy will have returned, and you’re eager (maybe mixed with hesitant) to pursue a new future.

Until now, you’ve created, manifested, and carried on because you “had to.” You were solving problems, and you did it well. But the gentle roar inside tells you that there’s more. You’ve shifted to the place where you want to explore your interests, do things that you enjoy, and create a life that feels good to you. You’re ready to move from solving problems to creating new possibilities. You “get to.” This, my harmony-loving friend, is what I call Realizing There Is More.

After repeating the cycle of trauma-recovery-trauma-recovery-etc., this is a giant PAUSE in the old pattern. It presents an opportunity that you maybe haven’t had in a long time. SPACE to think, breathe, feel, and be. And in that space, you realize that things COULD get even better. WHAAAAT!?! Yes! How good can it get?

Despite the fact that we know things could get infinitely worse, in this space we choose to see that things don’t have to get worse and we don’t have to struggle. We’re starting to walk out of the old and into the new way of thinking…from surviving to thriving. And we start to get curious about what our lives could be like if we grew just a little bit more.

Growth came at a high cost for us in the past: unspeakable pain. But here, in this space of peace, we realize that growth can come from joy and delight, too. And we start to consider that we, too, are meant to be happy and free. We’re willing to risk the safety and comfort of the present for the unknown, yet-to-be-created-future.

It’s here where we become aware of our own hopes, desires, and dreams beyond just “healing trauma.” Prior to this, we hoped we’d feel “normal” or be able to handle life. Our highest aspirations were to feel safe in our own skin. We knew other people lived beyond that edge, but it wasn’t yet for us. Until now.

Welcome home, sister. You’re ready to live by the light of your soul.

Come back next week so we can talk about taking the first steps to creating something new—and the pitfalls that keep a lot of people from moving forward.
